Five states roll out intra-state e-way bill from April 15

E-way bill requirement for intra-state movement of goods in India was rolled out in five states — Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala — from 15 April. From midnight till 5 pm on April 15, about 0.24 million e-way bills — both inter-state and intra-state — were generated on the goods and services tax network (GSTN) portal. The bill for inter-state movement of goods valued over Rs 50,000 was rolled out on April 1, on which about 0.28 million such bills were generated in 24 hours, a news agency reported quoting a top government official. Karnataka is the only state which had rolled out e-way bill system for intra-state movement of goods from April 1. E-way bill for intra-state movement is mandated by Gujarat for only 19 items, including edible oil, oil cakes, ceramic tiles, iron and steel, processed tobacco, cigarette, cement, timber products, tea, marble and granite.
